There are lots of companies that offer UKCAT courses to help with your preparation. A common question that we get asked is: “Do I NEED to take a UKCAT Course?”.

The Short Answer: Maybe.

The Long Answer: You can definitely get into any medical school with good-old fashioned hard work and indeed attending any course won’t guarantee you a place (beware of companies that ‘guarantee’ you scores). In fact, according to our student survey in 2015, less than 25% of students attended a UKCAT course although a lot more did use resources like UKCAT books and UKCAT practice tests to prepare.

So why should you attend a ukcat course?

It really depends on how comfortable you feel with the exam. A lot of students don’t know where to begin or have exhausted all resources like books and mock papers. Sometimes, you just need advice from someone who has been there and done well in the exam.

Remember, contract to what you’ll hear – practice does NOT make perfect.

Perfect practice makes perfect and that’s where ukcat intensive courses are useful – they tell you HOW to practice and HOW to become perfect.

They can guide your preparation and allow you to work far more efficiently. In addition, they can provide you more resources for you to practice with that are up-to-date and of a good quality (there are lots of ukcat books available that really out of date – ensure you only buy one published in 2014 or after).

Ultimately, whether you go to a ukcat crash course will be determined in part by how much you value the cost for the course. We pride ourselves on providing the most comprehensive resources available. However, we strongly believe that money shouldn’t stand in anyone’s way to university.
