GCSEs
A minimum of six GCSEs/IGCSEs at grade B / 6 or above, which must include:

Standard A-Level Offer
A minimum of A*AA, which must include Chemistry and Biology (including passes in the practical elements where available) and any third subject excluding General Studies and Critical Thinking

Do I Have To Sit An Admissions Test For Aston Medicine?
All applicants are required to sit the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) in the same year of application.
Aston Medical School does not have a fixed UCAT cut-off score. Instead, applicants are ranked using a combination of their UCAT performance and their academic profile (typically GCSEs or equivalent qualifications). The stronger your academics, the more competitive your overall score will be, but UCAT still plays a crucial role in securing an interview.
However, Aston now publishes illustrative UCAT data for recent entry cycles, which provides valuable insight into what competitive scores actually look like.
2025 Entry UCAT Data (Total score out of 3600)
The data below from the 2025 entry, indicates how UCAT performance may influence progression through Aston’s selection process. While the overall applicant average was 2521, the average score increased to approximately 2700 among interviewees, offer holders, and enrolled students.
The lowest UCAT score recorded among interviewees, offer holders, and enrolled students was 2320, suggesting that candidates scoring below the low-2300s were unlikely to progress to interview. Although Aston does not publish a formal cut-off, the practical competitive range appears to begin well above the overall applicant average.
An average of around 2700 places applicants within the competitive range typically seen at many UK medical schools.

Interviews (MMIs)
Once you have submitted your application and your UCAT results have been released, Aston will review and score your academic achievement and UCAT score to decide which applicants to invite to interview.
Interviews at Aston, and other medical schools, use the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) format. During these interviews applicants are presented with six scenarios, which will include at least one role-play. They consist of a number of stations which assess attributes including:
- understanding of studying and practising medicine
- motivation to study medicine
- verbal communication
- listening skills
- problem solving skills
- understanding of teamwork
- understanding of professionalism
At Aston, interviews are online and usually take place between December and March in your year of application. Once interviews are completed, Aston will rescore the interviewees’ applications based on their interview performance and decide which applicants to send offers to.
Do I Need To Have Work Experience To Study Medicine At Aston University?
Unlike some other UK medical schools, Aston doesn’t strictly require formal medical work experience. That said, showing that you’ve gained relevant skills and insight into what being a doctor involves can really strengthen your application.
You don’t need to shadow a doctor to do this. Experiences in non-medical environments can still be valuable. For example, working in a hospital shop or volunteering in a care setting will put you in contact with lots of different people and help you develop communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.

If you are in the last year of or have finished a UK Enic-recognised degree and wish to study Medicine at Aston University, you will be expected to have achieved a minimum of upper second class Honours (2:1) in any discipline plus three A-levels at AAB (including Chemistry and Biology- either at A).
In addition, graduate applicants will have to meet the GCSE requirements as stated above.
Please note that there is no accelerated graduate entry available currently at Aston Medical School, so successful graduate applicants would still need to follow the same five-year programme timeline.
